On Sunday, September 12th, 2021 the Cumberland Police Department responded to a Springdale Street business for the report of possible abduction. The caller believed that one of his employees may have been abducted by her boyfriend. Officers spoke with the manager who advised that Dustin Michael Driver entered the establishment, caused a disturbance and demanded that his employee leave with him. The manager told Driver that she could not leave at that time because of the store was busy with customers but, Driver told him he didn’t care and became even more irate. The female then left with Driver in a vehicle and the manager believed that she did not want to go with him but was afraid that he would create more of a disturbance if she did not go. Driver left in the female victim’s vehicle with the victim and her child.
Officers dispatched a description of the vehicle to other officers and they managed to located the vehicle on Industrial Blvd. and conducted a traffic stop. Driver was operating the vehicle at that time with the female and her child also in the vehicle. The female was interviewed by officers who stated that Driver walked to her work with her child and when he got there, he demanded that she take and break and leave with him. She told officers that she didn’t feel like she had a choice not to go because of the scene Driver was causing and the fact that he also had her child and was afraid for her child’s safety. She also told officers that she was afraid for her life and that Driver had taken some of her property during the incident. Driver was arrested and charged with kidnapping, robbery, assault, child abduction under of the age of 12, false imprisonment, and disorderly conduct. He was taken to the District Court Commissioner and was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center held without bond.
