Latest Trail project unveiled

October 24th, 2015 by WCBC Radio

An “Unveil the Trail” ceremony and celebration was held Friday morning as the ribbon was cut on the newest component of the Great Allegheny Passage.  A realignment of trail at Valley and North Lee Streets has been completed. That area of the trail had been  “unsafe for pedestrians and motorists ” according to project manager Dan DeWitt, a county engineer. The total projected cost for the project was $215,000 and it includes 900 feet of new asphalt trail and a pedestrian/bicycle crossing on the access road leading to the nearby trail parking area, which is owned by the county. Safety has been a concern at the crossing for bicyclists, pedestrians and motorists because of limited visibility due to the angle of the bridge and road, and the speed at which motorists sometimes travel the street.
