Law Enforcement Community Event next week

July 30th, 2015 by WCBC Radio

National Night Out (NNO) is a community based police awareness event held throughout the United States on the first Tuesday of every August.  The event has been held annually since 1984 and is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch.  NNO is meant to increase awareness about police programs in communities such as drug prevention, town watch, neighborhood watch, and other anti-crime efforts.  Many NNO organizers also utilize other public safety partners such as fire departments, rescue squads, businesses and community leaders.

The Maryland State Police Cumberland Barrack organized and hosted the very first ever National Night Out held in Allegany County in August of 2013.  Again this year, MSP Cumberland is pleased to announce the third annual NNO taking place this Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at the Country Club Mall in LaVale from 5 to 9 pm.

Various crime prevention programs and home protection ideas and information will be available and presented by the Maryland State Police, the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office as well as from several local volunteer fire and EMS companies.  Additionally, displays will be available from the Maryland Child Identification Program (MD CHIP), and the Allegany County Health Department.  McGruff the Crime Dog will be on hand along with the MSP Trooper 5 helicopter.  Refreshments will be available, as well as face paintings for the kids, door prizes and much more.  A dunk tank will also be available to dunk a non-suspecting police officer.  Additional information can be obtained by accessing the National Night Out Allegany County Facebook page or by contacting the MSP NNO Coordinator, TFC. Samuel Thomas at 301-729-2101.

This event has been made possible by the Allegany County C3I Narcotics Task Force, Sheriff Craig Robertson, Diamond Shine Car Wash, Walmart, Denny’s Restaurant, Gold Star Theaters, Hairway, Sports Cave, Mario’s Pizza, Chick-Fil-A at CCM, Datri’s Restaurant, Orange Julius and Holiday Hair.  Additional sponsors are always welcome and can participate by contacting the Cumberland Barrack.
