Lawmakers To Introduce Over 2,500 Pieces Of Legislation

Between now and April 11th, Maryland lawmakers will introduce more than 2,500 pieces of legislation but only about one third of the bills introduced will be sent to the governor's desk for his signature. Much of the next 80 plus days will be spent debating the state budget. Governor Larry Hogan says he will propose a $17 billion operating budget, and propose $480 million in tax cuts. House Speaker Michael Busch and Senate President Mike Miller said Democrats would consider the governor's tax cuts, but not at the expense of funding for education and other programs. While this is the first time in recent years the session has opened with a budget surplus, 1C Delegate Mike McKay says that he doesn’t view that any indicator of harmony between the parties…
