Legal Fees & Insurance Costs On The Rise At BoE

Legal fees and health insurance costs are on the rise for the Allegany County Board of Education. Chief Financial Officer Larry McKenzie submitted the final FY 2018-2019 budget numbers to the board at the last public session.  There have been a number of high profile legal matters involving the school board in the past year including a law suit filed in 2016 by Robert Farrell who now serves as school board president; as well as the state board of education’s effort to remove Wayne Foote from the board. In addition board lawyers, Mckenzie notes spent a great deal of time negotiating deals for the outgoing and incoming superintendents…

    It’s sad that this money couldn’t be spent on the students. The priorities are out of order.

    I just assume since Mr. Farrell lost his lawsuit he would do the right thing and pay the county back for all the money it had to spend to defend the Board. He’s never said he would, but he is famous for his sense of ‘fair play,’ I’m sure he’ll want to do this – after all it’s for the kids. Right?
