Light At The End Of The Tunnel For Regional Airport Improvement

While progress continues on the runway extension at the Greater Cumberland Regional Airport has been slow- and many years in the making- there is some light at the end of the tunnel.  The Airport Improvement Project will consist of runway and taxiway modification and design; new apron design and expansions; design and modifications of hangar facilities, navigational aids and airfield lighting as well as master planning services with FAA coordination. The total construction costs for the entire project is estimated at $32 million with 90 percent eligible coming from federal sources and the remainder coming from West Virginia Aeronautics Commission (5 percent) and Maryland Aviation Authority (5 percent). Authority Chairman Greg Wolff told the Allegany County Commissioners that construction on runway is slated to start in 2016 and be continued into the following year- and when completed, will provide a tremendous boost to the regional economy….
