Little Agreement Over Funding Request For School Security

There was very little agreement last Thursday when the Allegany County Commissioners and the Board of Education discussed a funding request for school security officers- including being at odds over who should be charged with developing a plan. The discussion was tense from the beginning with the commissioners not pleased with a last minute supplemental security grant of up to $500,000 added to the budget just a week ago. In terms of putting together a comprehensive security plan for the schools, Commissioner Mike McKay emphasized on several that he has asked Sheriff Craig Robertson to head up that project. School Board President Ed Root said he has no problem with that, but says the elected board has the ultimate say over school security…
