Local Facilities Pepper Bottom Ten of Congregate Staff Vaccinations

August 23rd, 2021 by WCBC Radio

The Maryland Department of Health (MDH) today announced an update on the top 10 and bottom 10 nursing home facilities in the state ranked by percentage of staff with at least one dose of a vaccine against COVID-19 and highly contagious variants. MDH also announced nursing home facilities that did not submit adequate staff COVID-19 vaccination data as required by the state.

On May 4, 2021, the Maryland Department of Aging launched the Skilled Nursing Facilities Vaccination Dashboard, which weekly publishes data on residents and staff vaccinated against COVID-19 at each of the skilled nursing homes and congregate care facilities in the state.

“Nursing home facilities are critical partners in Maryland’s efforts to reduce COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths among our most vulnerable residents,” said MDH Secretary Dennis R. Schrader. “As of August 18, 2021, nursing homes with staff who do not have a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine by September 1, 2021, are not requiring unvaccinated staff to weekly COVID-19 screening and testing, or are not appropriately reporting their vaccination data will be subject to fines, civil penalties, and enforcement actions.”

“Staff unvaccinated against COVID-19 and the highly contagious Delta variant are the consistent source of infections and outbreaks at nursing home facilities in the state,” said Maryland Department of Aging Secretary Rona E. Kramer. “By getting vaccinated, staff are an absolutely necessary source of protection for our elderly population and we implore those who are still unvaccinated to get a shot before it’s too late.”
