Local Firefighters Contract Talks To Resume Next Week

The president of the local firefighters union tells WCBC News that contract talks with the city of Cumberland will resume next week.  Local 1715, last October, filed suit against the city over the collective bargaining agreement. The city, although coming to terms with the other bargaining groups, has been unable to reach agreement with the firefighters with the primary dispute over a change in health care coverage. The dispute between the city and IAFF Local 1715 is now in Allegany County Circuit Court, with a trial date scheduled in May. The city wants to include the firefighters union as part of a cooperative local government insurance trust. While the union has taken the city to court, the city has been preparing to move forward as of July 1. Local 1715 President Ken Mckenzie said the two sides recently agreed to resume talks…
