Local Health System Handling Increase in Bed and Supplies Need

Bob Atlas, president of the Maryland Hospital Association, said hospitals are handling the increased bed capacity from the coronavirus outbreak but supplies of personal protective equipment are dwindling. WBAL TV reports that as of the start of the week, over 1,500 Marylanders have been hospitalized with the coronavirus and Maryland hospitals are at about 80% bed capacity. While the state has plenty of ventilators as it has only used about one-third of its supply, Atlas said personal protective equipment supplies are dwindling and hospitals are struggling to keep it in stock.  Although beds and equipment have been an issue for many hospitals in the state, UPMC Western Maryland President Barry Ronan tells WCBC News that the local system is doing well in that regard…
