Local Resident Calls On City To Reject Funding Request From Cumberland Historic Cemetery Organization

A local resident has asked the Cumberland Mayor and City Council to reject a funding request from the Cumberland Historic Cemetery Organization- claiming that the group is racist. The request was made this week by Dr. Jeffrey Davis who made headlines in recent years attempting to have a monument of the Ten Commandments removed from the courthouse grounds on Washington Street.  Addressing the city council in public session, Davis claimed the cemetery organization, headed by Edward Taylor, has a history of disseminating false information about the history of slavery- and routinely displays the Confederate Flag…

    Given the religious nature of the CHCO activities and political links and postings, they are not an appropriate group to receive public funds. It really is that simple.
