Local schools excell at Tournament of Bands

On Saturday, October 19,  the Tournament of Bands held its Chapter 5 Championships at South Hagerstown High School, and for the second consecutive year, two Allegany County Public School bands won in their respective categories and group size. Allegany High School’s marching band defended its Group 2 Open title, representing the band’s sixteenth Chapter Championship in school history.  The band earned specialty awards for Best Auxiliary, Best Music, Best Percussion, and Best Visual.   The group will next contend for the Group 2 Open Atlantic Coast Championships on November 4, thus making their seventeenth appearance at this event and the fifteenth consecutive year entering the event in the top ten.  Allegany High School’s band is under the direction of Larry Jackson.  The Mountain Ridge High School marching band earned their first Chapter Championships in Group 2A, winning specialty awards for Best Auxiliary, Best Music, Best Drum Major, Best Percussion, and Best Visual.  The band will perform in the Group 2A Atlantic Coast Championship on November 2, in Camp Hill, PA.  Mountain Ridge’s band is under the direction of Christian Robinson.
