Local Tourism on the Rise; County Funding Stagnant

Although Allegany County Tourism grew in 2014 almost double the rate of the state overall and has been making tremendous strides for the past five years- local funding for tourism remains stagnant. According to the most recent report, tourism generated $22 million in local taxes in 2014. Local tourism sales in 2014 of 11.9% nearly doubled the overall state growth rate of 6.1% and was responsible for 3,500 jobs.  Addressing local business leaders, Tourism Strategist Dave Williams said that while the tourism industry is growing- funding from the county has not…
