August 29th, 2017 by WCBC Radio

WBAL reports Archbishop William E. Lori has asked all parishes in the Archdiocese of Baltimore to hold an emergency collection at this weekend's Masses to support relief efforts in Texas for those struck by Hurricane Harvey.

In a statement, archdiocese officials say the request was made Tuesday in a letter to pastors. A similar request was made of Catholic school presidents and principals.

“This emergency collection will be used to support the humanitarian and recovery efforts of Catholic Charities USA and to provide pastoral and rebuilding support,” Lori wrote.

More than 500,000 registered Catholics are in the Archdiocese of Baltimore.

Catholic Charities is one of a number of groups, including the Salvation Army and American Red Cross, participating in the recovery effort.
