Luke Paper Mill Set To Close By End Of June

The Luke paper mill will be closing by the end of June- resulting in a loss of 675 jobs. The official announcement came in a Tuesday morning press release from the Verso Corporation. A company spokesman called it an unfortunate, but necessary decision, pointing to the continued decline in demand for the type of paper being produced at the local operation. The 130 year old mill has transferred from corporation to corporation in recent years going from Westvaco to Mead Westvaco to New Page and most recently part of the Verso Corporation.
