Man Arrested After Snorkeling to Snag Fountain Change

On October 11, 2018 at 12:30 a.m., officers from the Cumberland Police Department responded to the Downtown Mall area for a theft complaint.  Officers investigating the incident learned that a subject had entered a downtown establishment with a large quantity of change to purchase items.  When questioned by an employee about the change, the subject admitted that he had swam through the Downtown Mall fountain and removed all the money. Subsequently, officers were able to locate the subject and identified him as Daniel Wise, age 45, of Cumberland, MD. Wise was then placed under arrest and transported to the Cumberland Police Department.  He was then charged on a Criminal Citation for theft under $100 and released pending trial in District Court.
