Man Arrested On Multiple Traffic & Criminal Charges After Crashing Into Residence

On Sunday January 7th, 2018 an officer with the Cumberland City Police Dept. stopped a vehicle in the area of Maryland Ave. and Spring St. for a minor traffic offense. As the officer exited his patrol car and attempted to contact the operator of the vehicle, the vehicle began to speed off. The operator immediately lost control of the vehicle and crashed into an unoccupied residence in the 700 block of Elm St. The suspect was then seen fleeing on foot from the accident scene. Officers pursued the suspect on foot and were able to apprehend him a short time later and take him into custody. The suspect was identified as Rashon L. Whiting of Belcamp MD. Whiting was also found to have two active arrest warrants out of Baltimore MD. Whiting was then transported to the Cumberland Police Department for processing of multiple criminal and traffic offenses. He was then taken in front of the District Court Commissioner where he was held without bond. The active arrest warrants will be lodged as detainers, pending transport to Baltimore MD For service.

Charges:

Traffic – Fleeing & Eluding, Reckless Driving, Driving w/o a license, Leaving the scene of accident, Other misc. traffic offenses.

Criminal – Disturbing the Peace, Obstructing & Hindering, Fail to Obey Lawful Order, Trespassing, Disorderly Conduct
