Man Charged With Assaulting Police During Arrest

On Saturday, Cumberland Police responded to the Valley Tavern for the report of a young man who left the establishment after he broke the door.

As officers approached the area, they located a man matching the given description of the suspect. He was identified as Jeffery Jason Edward Wood, 20, of the city.

When officers tried to speak with Wood about the incident, he became uncooperative causing a disturbance in the officers presence. At this point Wood was placed under arrest and in doing so, he assaulted the arresting officer. He was charged with destruction of property, disorderly conduct, and assault.

Wood was taken to the Allegany County Detention Center to await a bond review before the District Court Commissioner.

    I hope he is given a high bail for assaulting a police officer. Laying hands on a policeman shows contempt for the law and those the police protect.
