Man Observed With Gun Arrested

At approximately, 0853hrs, officers from the Cumberland Police Department were dispatched to Pennsylvania Avenue for a report of a man with a gun.  Officers arrived and located a male subject matching the description looking out of the residence.  The subject, later identified William Lee Miller exited the residence where he made contact with officers.  Officers advised Miller of the complaint and checked his person for weapons.  Miller at first advised officers that he never had a handgun but later told officers that they would never find the gun.  During the course of their investigation Miller continued to yell at people at another residence.   Officers gave Miller numerous warnings to lower his voice and keep the peace.  Miller failed to comply with the orders of officers and he was placed under arrest.  Officers continued to talk with witnesses and they learned that prior to their arrival Miller was observed by several witnesses outside the residence waving the handgun around and pointing it at the victim while arguing. Miller was transported to Cumberland Police Headquarters for processing.  Miller was later taken before a District Court Commissioner where he was held on a $35,000.00 bond.

       At approximately, 1750hrs, officers were dispatched to a Queen City Drive business for a report of a theft.  Officers arrived and discovered that store employees had the subject detained.  Officers made contact with the staff and the suspect who was identified as Paul Robert Goetz.  The store staff advised that Goetz concealed several items before attempting to leave the business.  The staff stopped Goetz who admitted to having the items.  Officers cited Goetz for theft under $100.00 and he was released pending trial in District Court.
