Manchin says Morrisey’s office about to take ‘horrible deal’ on opioid suit

Citing “reliable sources,” Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., criticized West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey for alleged plans to settle a lawsuit later this week against one of the nation’s largest drug shippers for $35 million. His comments came at a media event Tuesday, exactly two weeks before he and Morrisey square off in a hotly contested U.S. Senate election. Manchin said the attorney general is rushing the state into a weak settlement for his own political gain.

“West Virginians can’t afford to let Patrick Morrisey cut a sweetheart settlement with McKesson,” he said. “I’m speaking out because I will not watch our state get screwed over here by Morrisey because he wants to ram this through before the election, can you believe that? This is a horrible deal anytime. Forget about politics, but Morrisey is playing politics with this. It makes me sick, and it makes every West Virginian sick, and it should.”
