On Tuesday, Cumberland Police Department along with the Maryland State Police, Allegany County Sheriff’s Office, Garrett County Sheriff’s Office and the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigations units; investigations and narcotics divisions, executed three separate search and seizure warrants in the 500 block of Maryland Avenue in Cumberland, Maryland. The search and seizure warrants were a direct result of numerous citizen complaints, tips (various local law enforcement Crime Tip Lines), and police calls for service for those residences. The search warrants were the product of a three month investigation into the sales/distribution of various narcotics to include heroin and crack cocaine being sold out of those residences. Entry was made into all three residences by utilizing the Cumberland Police Emergency Response Team (CERT), Garrett County Special Response Team (SRT), and the Maryland State Police “STATE” (SRT team). The 500 block of Maryland Avenue was shut down for a brief period of time as this operation was being conducted. The Allegany County Department of Social Services (Child Protective Services) also assisted on scene with the placement of three children all under the age of 6. This investigation is considered ongoing with additional arrests anticipated in the near future.
