Rocky Gap Casino Revenues Continue Upward Trend

Maryland Lottery and Gaming today announced that monthly combined revenues for the state’s casinos reached a new high of $104,351,219 in May 2016. The total surpassed the previous best month, April 2016, which saw casinos generate $103.9 million.

Maryland’s first casino opened in September 2010, and there are now five casinos operating in the state: Hollywood Casino Perryville in Cecil County, Horseshoe Casino Baltimore in Baltimore City, Casino at Ocean Downs in Worcester County, Maryland Live Casino in Anne Arundel County, and Rocky Gap Casino Resort in Allegany County.

“Maryland’s casino business is on a roll,” said Maryland Lottery and Gaming Director Gordon Medenica. “Two consecutive record months is a noteworthy achievement and I congratulate all of our casino partners. Well done!”

Casino contributions to the state go to the Maryland Education Trust Fund and also support small-, minority- and women-owned businesses, local impact grants and the state’s horse racing industry.

Rocky Gap Casino Resort generated $4,422,173 from both slot machines and table games in May. Gross gaming revenue per unit per day was: $192.92 for slot machines and $1,121.37 for banking table games. This facility does not have non-banking table games. Rocky Gap Casino Resort’s May 2016 revenue increased by $173,776, or 4.1%, from May 2015. Rocky Gap Casino Resort operates 634 slot machines and 18 table games.

Hollywood Casino Perryville generated $6,898,407 from both slot machines and table games in May. Gross gaming revenue per unit per day was: $225.14 for slot machines, $2,332.05 for banking table games and $311.11 for non-banking table games. Hollywood Casino’s May 2016 revenue decreased by $222,204, or 3.1%, from May 2015. Hollywood Casino Perryville operates 850 slot machines and 22 (12 banking and 10 non-banking) table games.

Horseshoe Casino Baltimore generated $28,793,484 from both slot machines and table games in May. Gross gaming revenue per unit per day was: $229.67 for slot machines, $2,588.38 for banking table games and $1,067.07 for non-banking table games. Horseshoe Casino’s May 2016 revenue increased by $6,869,863, or 31.3%, from May 2015. Horseshoe Casino Baltimore operates 2,202 slot machines and 178 (153 banking and 25 non-banking) table games.

Maryland Live Casino generated $59,086,463 from both slot machines and table games in May. Gross gaming revenue per unit per day was: $298.71 for slot machines, $4,338.46 for banking table games and $1,253.05 for non-banking table games. Maryland Live’s May 2016 revenue increased by $1,044,375, or 1.8%, from May 2015. Maryland Live Casino operates 3,923 slot machines and 206 (154 banking and 52 non-banking) table games.

Casino at Ocean Downs generated $5,150,693 from slot machines in May, and its gross gaming revenue per unit per day was $207.48. Casino at Ocean Downs’ May 2016 revenue increased by $159,116, or 3.2%, from May 2015. The Casino at Ocean Downs operates 800 slot machines, and does not have table games.

In a year-to-year comparison, May 2016 casino revenue increased from May 2015 by $8,024,925, or 8.3%. See attached document for a detailed breakdown of May 2016’s fund disbursement, fiscal year-to-date totals for the individual casinos and combined state total.
