Maryland Health Secretary Held In Contempt Over Mental Health System

September 28th, 2017 by WCBC Radio

WBAL reports, saying the Maryland mental health system is in "shambles," a Baltimore judge is holding state Health Secretary Dennis Schrader in civil contempt for failing to provide beds for criminal defendants. Schrader said he is "very sensitive" to the mental health issue and will add beds to comply with the court order. The issue is that people charged with crimes have to sit too long in detention facilities when they really need mental health treatment.
