January 23rd, 2016 by WCBC Radio

The Maryland National Guard says it has activated 500 members to respond to winter storm emergencies.

Sgt. 1st Class Thaddeus Harrington said Friday that service members and vehicles are being moved to positions across the state.

He says the Guard stands ready to assist stranded motorists and help local law enforcement and firefighters with transportation, evacuations, supply distribution and search-and-rescue operations.

The National Weather Service says parts of Maryland could see more than 2 feet of snow from Friday afternoon through the weekend.

Gov. Larry Hogan declared a state of emergency on Thursday ahead of the storm.
