Maryland Sen. Ulysses Currie Rescinds Resignation

November 30th, 2016 by WCBC Radio

A Maryland state senator who announced his resignation earlier this month now says he intends to stay in the General Assembly.

The Daily Record reports that Sen. Ulysses Currie rescinded his resignation in a letter Tuesday to Senate President Thomas V. "Mike" Miller Jr.

Currie cited concerns over the "petty political jockeying and deal-making" that has overtaken the process to name his replacement.

The 79-year-old had said earlier this month that he can no longer serve with the strength and energy his constituents deserve.

He said this week that he had expected that his wife, Rev. Shirley A. Gravely-Currie, would finish the remaining two years of his term. He said his decision to step down has created "a level of divisiveness and discord" he cannot allow to continue.
