McKay Comments on Future Allocations Going to Canal Place

Since it was created by the state in 1993- Canal Place has received more than 30 million dollars in state investments- while struggling to create a revenue stream aside from the various rents collected.  While it finally looks like the anchor Footer Dye Works project may finally be coming to fruition- members of the Western Maryland legislative delegation have expressed concern with the operation and have formed a task force to study the situation.  The future of the Canal Place Preservation and Development Authority is very much up in the air as 2018 arrives. Delegate Mike McKay says Allegany County gets limited state dollars for local projects- and to continue to direct large amounts of that allocation to Canal Place at the expense of other projects- may no longer be in the best interests of the county…
