MD Comptroller Peter Franchot Running For Governor In 2022

January 20th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot announced last week that he is running for governor in 2022. Franchot, a Democrat who is in his fourth four-year term as the state’s tax collector, said he would govern in a similar way to how he has run the comptroller’s office, focusing on bringing respect, responsibility and results to the state’s taxpayers…

Franchot has run in the past as a political outsider, and he has spent much of his time as comptroller at odds with leaders in his own party.  A former state delegate from Montgomery County, Franchot has cruised to reelection to the statewide office of comptroller by large margins. He was re-elected in 2018 with more than 1.6 million votes, or about 72% of the vote- even managing to win Allegany County- a rarity for a Democrat. He has underscored progress he has made as the state’s tax collector, including getting tax refunds to residents in less than three business days, recapturing delinquent taxes and fighting tax fraud and identity theft.

I hope if he wants to be governor he will promise to pick up the trash in Baltimore such as the people who attacked the police officer and put them in jail where they belong
