MD Democrats Unveil Plan Aimed At Protecting State Schools From Privatization

In response to Tuesday's confirmation of U.S. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, Maryland Democrats in Annapolis unveiled a plan they say is aimed at protecting the state's schools from privatization. House Speaker Mike Busch and other lawmakers were joined by other Democratic lawmakers and officials with the Maryland State Education Association, the state's largest teachers union. The speakers criticized Governor Larry Hogan's bills related to charter schools.  Maryland State Education Association President Betty Weller described one of Hogan's bills as "straight out of the Donald Trump, [Education Secretary] Betsy DeVos playbook”. She says the bill would place charter schools under a separate school board from public schools…
