MD Department of Labor Increasing Staffing as Claims Backlog Grows

With activity expected to dramatically increase pending on the status of the second COVID-19 Federal Stimulus package, many Marylanders are still experiencing problems and growing frustrated in trying to receive unemployment benefits. In an attempt to reduce a backlog of claims, the state’s Department of Labor said it's bringing on 100 more call center agents who are being trained to answer the phones and help settle minor claims issues, more adjudicators to handle difficult and complex cases and agents who are continue making cold calls to claimants.
