“Mercy Fest” is the name of an event scheduled to be held in Cumberland at the end of next month- with the focus being to provide support and housing for those who qualify for medical marijuana and who can use it to detox from opioids/heroin. J. Maverick Dixon, representing a group known as Hippie Christian Fellowship, told the Cumberland Mayor and City Council this week that has worked as a minister, a missions activist and clinical social worker. The program known as “God Seed Housing” is designed to provide housing, counseling and spiritual teachings to those addicted- and the August 31st festival in the parking lot of Roses in downtown Cumberland will provide free food and clothing to those in need. He says while it has been subject to debate in some circles, he believes medical marijuana can be an effective option for those addicted to heroin and other opioids…
