Miller Comments on Legalization Efforts in State

Bills to legalize marijuana for recreational use, as well as a bill to decriminalize marijuana could get a vote on Thursday in the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee. Committee Chairman Brian Frosh says a vote on both bills is likely. The decriminalization bill would reduce the penalty for possession of less than 10 grams of marijuana from 90 days in jail to a $100 fine. Montgomery County Democratic Senator Jamie Raskin, who is sponsoring the marijuana legalization bill, says that while surveys show the public supports marijuana legislation, he believes lawmakers may be only willing to support the decriminalization bill.
