UPDATED: Woman Flown From National Highway Mishap

One patient was flown to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown, Pa. in serious condition after being involved in a motorcycle crash in lower LaVale Sunday afternoon, according to emergency service officers. 

“The Allegany County Joint Communications Center began taking calls just before 6 p.m. reporting a motorcycle crash in the 400-block of National Highway,” Todd Bowman, public information officer for the Allegany County Department of Emergency Services said. “Maryland State Police arrived on the scene first and confirmed a serious crash. Our Communications Center started additional units to assist.”


A female rider on the motorcycle was flown by Maryland State Police Aviation to the Johnstown trauma center, according to Bowman. Her condition is not currently known. 


Two other patients were transported by ground units to Western Maryland Regional Medical Center in Cumberland in stable condition.


Units from LaVale Volunteer Fire Department, Allegany County Department of Emergency Services EMS Division, ambulances from LaVale, Corriganville and Georges Creek responded on the incident.


Maryland State Police is investigating the crash. 


Allegany County 911 reports a motor vehicle accident near 429 National Highway in LaVale.

Trooper 5 was requested for a possible transport during the emergency response.

The initial report was issued just before 6:00 PM.  US Alternate 40 was shut down for about a half hour.
