The Cumberland Times News reports that a body discovered Thursday in a submerged vehicle in the Potomac River at Spring Gap has been identified as a Fort Ashby, West Virginia, woman reported missing two weeks ago by her family, according to Natural Resources Police. Cathy Darlene Richardson, 62, was reported missing to the Mineral County Sheriff's Office on Feb. 25. The vehicle was observed in the river near the Spring Gap Campground at 3 p.m. by a state worker, who then notified a Maryland State Police trooper of the discovery, said NRP spokeswoman Lt. Catherine Medellin. The trooper then notified Natural Resources Police, which responded to the scene with first-responders from Allegany County. "The vehicle was found about 200 yards downstream of the boat ramp at Spring Gap," Medellin said. "It didn't go into the water where it was found." Natural Resources Police and the Mineral County Sheriff's Office are conducting a joint investigation. Autopsy results are being awaited from the Maryland State Medical Examiner's Office as part of the investigation. The Mineral County Sheriff's Office had posted a lookout for Richardson, who was last seen Feb. 21 driving out of her apartment complex along state Route 46 in Fort Ashby.
