Moorefield Man Arrested Following Fatal Drunk Driving Incident

The Cumberland Times News reports a Harper's Ferry woman riding a bicycle on U.S. Route 220 south was struck and killed Monday morning and a Moorefield man was arrested minutes later on charges of drunken driving, according to the Moorefield Police Department.

Genevieve R. Eaton, 66, died in the 9:30 a.m. incident that occurred as she was bicycling south on U.S. Route 220 in the area of the Hester Bridge.

Police said a vehicle operated by 40-year-old Adam Phillip Colasessano struck Eaton and drove from the scene before striking a residence at 310 S. Main St.

Colasessano also reportedly drove from that scene but was observed and stopped by state police on U.S. 220 near the Gap Bridge, where he was taken into custody without incident.

Colasessano was charged with driving under the influence causing death and hit and and run causing death. Additional charges are pending, police said.

He remained jailed Thursday at the Potomac Highlands Regional Jail in Augusta in lieu of $100,012 bond.

The incident remains under investigation by Moorefield Police with assistance of the West Virginia State Police and the Hardy County Sheriff's Department.
