More COVID-19-related deaths go unreported, W.Va. Gov. calls for investigation

March 19th, 2021 by WCBC Radio

West Virginia Governor Jim Justice announced he is calling for an investigation after it was discovered that there had been another 20 unreported coronavirus deaths – just 10 days after he had announced more than 160 unreported deaths. On Friday, the DHHR announced that the state had 30 more COVID deaths – 10 that had occurred in the past 24 hours and the 20 other unreported deaths that were discovered through a data match examining COVID-19 associated deaths reported through death certificates. The governor had announced March 9 that DHHR discovered more than 160 previously unreported coronavirus-related deaths. At the time, he said half of the unreported deaths came from hospitals. The information was not reported by more than 60 health care facilities in West Virginia. He said then that included home deaths, hospice, hospitals and correctional facilities.
