More Layoffs Occur At Cumberland Times News

April 18th, 2018 by WCBC Radio

The upheaval continues at The Cumberland Times News.

WCBC News has learned that approximately 15 employees involved with the mailroom at the newspaper have been let go, with the group getting the word on Monday of this week.

Earlier, about 10 pressman had lost positions as the company made the decision to print the paper in Johnstown, the headquarters of a sister publication, The Tribune Democrat.

At this point, editorial and advertising personnel continue to work out of the Times News building on South Mechanic Street.

In a statement issued when the pressmen were furloughed, Editor John Smith said there would be few changes apparent to readers of the paper.

I am Getting my paper 1,2, or 3 days late, some days I get 3 papers on the same day. I get it mailed and I am very dissatisfactived at this time with this paper. I have called about this matter and get no where, at this rate you won’t be in business very long.
