More Than A Dozen Local Projects To Receive Funding From Program Open Space

More than a dozen local projects will receive some funding through the state of Maryland’s Program Open Space allocation. Program Open Space is a state mandated program funded by half a percent of state real estate transfer tax fees. By design, the program provides state and local governments the opportunity to purchase land for recreation, however rural counties are granted 75 percent for development projects. To receive full funding from the state, organizations must provide a 10 percent local match. Projects receiving the most funding include the Bel Air Elementary School playground and Long Ballfield improvements at Constitution Park- each receiving $90,000- with $80,000 targeted for tennis court renovation and lighting at Allegany College of Maryland.
