Motorcyclist Killed in Barton Accident

On October 5, 2016 at approximately 1514 hours Allegany County Sheriff’s Office units responded to Legislative Road in Barton Maryland in reference to a motor vehicle crash involving a motorcycle. Upon arrival deputies were able to determine that a 2014 Honda motorcycle operated by 42 year old Thomas Parker Jr. of Cresaptown had been traveling south on Legislative Road when it crossed the center line and struck a 2014 Freightliner in the northbound lane driven by Joseph Wiland of Frostburg. The Barton Fire Department responded to the scene along with an Allegany County paramedic. As a result of the incident Thomas Parker Jr. was pronounced dead on the scene. Joseph Wiland was transported to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center by Tri-Towns Ambulance to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. The Maryland State Police Commercial Vehicle Division responded to the scene and assisted with the investigation. The roadway was closed for approximately 2 ½ hours while units conducted the initial investigation. The incident remains under investigation by the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office.
