Saturday at approximately 8:40 P.M., the Maryland State Police Hagerstown Barrack was advised of a Hit and Run suspect vehicle coming from the Spring Mills Road area of Falling Waters into Maryland. The vehicle was a gray/silver 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier, bearing WV registration 1LL746. Troopers check the area as a reported witness followed the vehicle into Maryland, losing sight of the vehicle in the Halfway area. The vehicle was located in the East parking lot of J C Penney by Sgt. R. Fraley. The driver and vehicle were positively identified as the suspect. Senior Troopers W.Talbert, A. Butler, and T. Kocevar also assisted as the driver was found to be in possession of CDS (less than 10 gr.) marijuana. Nathan L. Varnum, 21 of Hedgesville, WV. was issued criminal citations and released upon his signature.
The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department is pursuing charges in regards to the accident where three people, to include a four month old infant, were transported from the scene with serious injuries, according to Deputy Boothby. The investigation is still continuing by the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department.
