After family notifications, troopers are identifying the victims involved in a multiple-vehicle crash Tuesday in Washington County.

The deceased victims are identified as Stacy Virts, 50, of Sharpsburg, Md, Brooke Riley, 25, of Middletown, Md., and Anna Stottlemyer, 85, of Boonsboro, Md.  Each person was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

The injured are identified as David Stottlemyer, 58, of Boonsboro, Md., and Jerome Murphy, 61, of Hagerstown, Md.  David Stottlemyer was flown by Maryland State Police helicopter to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center.  Murphy was transported by ambulance to Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown.

The preliminary investigation by the Maryland State Police Crash Team indicates Murphy was driving a Kenworth dump truck westbound on Rt. 40 when he struck the rear of a Toyota Prius, driven by David Stottlemyer, which was stopped on westbound Rt. 40 waiting to make a left turn onto Mt. Lena Road.  According to the preliminary investigation, both the car and dump truck then crossed into the opposite lane and struck the two Harley Davidson motorcycles traveling eastbound, driven by Virts and Riley.

A member of the Washington County State’s Attorney’s Office responded to the scene and was briefed by investigators.  Upon completion of the crash investigation, it will be presented to the Washington County State’s Attorney’s Office for review regarding charges, which are pending.

The investigation is continuing.
