December 23rd, 2014 by WCBC Radio

Courtesy of the Mountainside Detachment of the Marine Corps League, “Bears for Bears” were recently presented to the Cumberland Barrack of the Maryland State Police.  The stuffed bears will used to give to children when encountered by troopers on calls for service.  The “Bears for Bears” campaign is just one of the many good deeds the Mountainside Marines participate in every year.  The group of Marines are devoted to helping crippled children; they recently donated $23,000 to Children’s Hospitals and also donate teddy bears to other public safety groups for distribution to children as well as assisting the Marine Corps Reserve with the “Toys for Tots” campaign.   Additionally, the group assists in hosting cook-outs at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.  They also distribute necessities to military patients and their families at the hospital and are involved with the “Wounded Warrior Project.”  They furthermore provide assistance to military members in need of assistance and burial services for their deceased members.  The local Marine sponsored group is made up primarily of retired service men and women from all branches of military service.   More information can be found by visiting their Facebook page at Mountainside Marines Detachment #1071 MCL.
