Mullaney Comments on Recent Retirement

January 3rd, 2014 by WCBC Radio

When longtime downtown manager Ed Mullaney announced rather abruptly a few months ago that he would be stepping down- the timing raised some questions and led others to speculate on what motivated him to so.  His decision to step down at the end of October came at a time when the downtown mall is at its busiest with Halloween activities leading into the Christmas Tree lighting and holiday shopping season, and culminating with the New Years Eve Ball Drop. It also came shortly after the DDC conducted a survey of downtown property owners- a survey some felt was slanted and designed to reflect poorly on the popular Friday After  Five events.  Mullaney stopped by WCBC’s broadcast location on New Years Eve and talked briefly about his departure. Mullaney said that while there may have been some growing philosophical differences, those did not play a role in his decision.
