Mullaney Finishing His Final Day as Downtown Manager

After 15 years of service promoting and creating programs to develop Cumberland’s town center, Ed Mullaney, downtown manager, today is his final day on the job. Mullaney submitted his resignation the first of the month. Mullaney, 69, explained that his schedule had become difficult when he was faced with additional family responsibilities recently. He essentially said that he felt this was the right time to step down.  A 1962 graduate of LaSalle High School and then Frostburg State University, Mullaney starting working downtown after retiring from a teaching position in Montgomery County he held for 30 years. He is credited as having started or assisted  any number of programs during his time on the job including Friday after Five, Light the Steeples, Let’s Beautify Cumberland!, The Saint Paddy’s Day Hooley, Dining Under the Stars, Farmer’s Market, the Christmas Tree Lighting, New Year’s Eve Ball Drop, Friday Night Movies and more. With the holiday season now underway, one of Mullaney’s signiature themes has been “shop local”.
