Murder-suicide in Garrett County

September 2nd, 2020 by WCBC Radio

Maryland State Police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide after two people were found dead in a Garrett County home yesterday afternoon. The two are identified as Amanda Monahan, 25, of Grantsville, Md. and Chad Sebold, 37, of Boynton, PA.  Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Just before 4:30 p.m. yesterday, Maryland State Police from the McHenry Barrack responded to a call at Monahan’s home in the unit-block of Dorsey Hotel Road, Grantsville, where a relative of Monahan had found the bodies.  The relative had gone to the residence to check on her after receiving word that she had not reported to work yesterday.

Investigators from the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit and State Police crime scene technicians responded to the scene.  They were assisted by investigators from of the Criminal Enforcement Division and troopers from the McHenry Barrack.

The bodies were in a bedroom of the home.  Investigators recovered a rifle with the body of Sebold.  Based on evidence at the scene, the preliminary investigation indicates Sebold shot Monahan before turning the gun on himself.  There was no one else in the home.  Investigators learned the two had been in a previous relationship, but were estranged.

State Police homicide investigators briefed the Garrett County State’s Attorney on the investigation.  The investigation is continuing.
