New Legislation Aims at State’s Growing Drug Problem

A Baltimore County legislator is proposing a number of new drug laws that he acknowledges are controversial- but feels they are necessary given the growing drug problems in the state. WBAL reports Democratic Delegate Dan Morhaim, who is an emergency room physician, and the sponsor of the state's medical marijuana law, has proposed several additional drug bills that he says he would not have proposed several years ago. Morhaim that the legislation aims to get drug addicts into treatment programs and require hospitals provide more of the treatment, rather than drug counseling centers. The legislation calls for doctors to distribute pharmaceutical heroin, addiction treatment on demand at hospitals and provide addicts a safe, clean place to "consume" drugs…
