New Maryland Laws Go into Effect Tuesday

September 29th, 2013 by WCBC Radio

New laws will go into effect in the state of Maryland for the first of October. One law centers on cell phone usage behind the wheel. Starting Tuesday, the use of a cellular device while operating a vehicle is considered a primary offense- allowing officers to stop a driver. Previously, the infraction was only a secondary offense which could not warrant a traffic stop unless another violation was being committed in addition to the use of a cell phone while operating a vehicle.
