A top priority to kick off 2014 for the Canal Preservation and Development Authority will be to put out a new request for proposals for the Footer Dye Works building. RFP’s attempting to solicit a private developer for the aging structure were sent out late last year, however none were returned. Rick Thayer, acting Authority Chair, acknowledged that the process was done prematurely- and done without the Authority being in possession of the adjacent parking lot area. That, he says, proved a deal breaker for potential commercial development. Following a number of steps taken in the past year, Thayer says the building is now far more attractive as a commercial opportunity and he expects strong interest from the private sector…
