New Senior Program Director at “YMCA”

May 11th, 2018 by WCBC Radio

The YMCA of Cumberland welcomed Emily Hendershot as the new Senior Program Director this spring. Emily has worked at the Y for over 8 years beginning her career as a basketball referee/scorekeeper then onto a part-time lifeguard and swim lesson instructor, a head lifeguard, preschool recreation instructor and managing the adventure program (climbing wall, camping and facility rentals) beginning in 2017.

“I’ve always had a passion for aquatics. I grew up loving the water. Today, I still enjoy swimming especially in triathlon races,” Emily shares.

Emily also has a lifelong passion for the Y. “When I was younger, I participated in Sunday School Basketball for many years. My mom and dad coached my team that many of my lifelong friends played on. I also participated in Y swim lessons when I was younger and then taught private as well as group swim lessons. In 2013, I completed my Lifeguard Instructor Certification and Certified Pool Operator Certification and began to teach lifeguard classes.”

“The mission of the YMCA, bringing the community together, nurturing potential, and ensuring that everyone in the community has a chance to reach her full potential, is very important to me. The Y has something to offer for everyone and I want to help strengthen the impact the Y has on the community,” she says.

“I also want to improve our aquatic facility. The guarding staff will take part in regular trainings to refresh rescue skills, practice YMCA policies, and will assist in weekly pool area cleaning. Programming options will be expanded with new clinic and camp opportunities. I am very excited for my journey as the Senior Program Director and am looking forward to working through the mission of the Y to strengthen our community,” Emily exclaims.
