New Sound Garden to be unveiled at Constitution Park

August 23rd, 2019 by WCBC Radio

The public is invited to join the Mayor and City Council of Cumberland, the Allegany Arts Council, and the Cumberland Parks and Recreation Board on September 9, 2019 at 5:00pm for a ribbon cutting ceremony to formally introduce the new Sound Garden in Constitution Park.  Located in the playground across from Pavilions 1 and 2, the new Sound Garden provides a sensory experience through new musical play pieces from the Miracle Recreation Concerto line.  The Sound Garden includes chimes, a keyboard, bongos, and a maraca-like feature.

Hayden Ort-Ulm, a former member of the Cumberland Parks and Recreation Board, helped to conceive the idea as a great way for kids to get “hands-on” with play equipment and make some noise where it is perfectly acceptable to do so.

The Allegany Arts Council agrees.  Says Julie Westendorff, Executive Director, “This is a perfect example of local government and private entities working together to accomplish things in our community.  I applaud the City of Cumberland for seeking partners and for seeing this project through.  I am excited to see how we can continue this partnership to improve the aesthetic of our community in the future.”

This project was made possible through the financial assistance from the Allegany Arts Council’s Creative Placemaking Award, the Community Trust Foundation, and the Bower’s Trust.
