Next Step In NewPage Bankruptcy Proceedings Scheduled For Friday

This Friday, the next step in the bankruptcy proceedings for NewPage is scheduled for a federal courtroom in Delaware. A meeting of Creditors is slated, and a representative of NewPage will be on hand as it is required as part of federal bankruptcy rules. News of the bankruptcy hit home, with one of Allegany County’s major employers- the Luke Paper Mill- potentially impacted.  The Point Hawkesbury mill, in Nova Scotia, was shut down abruptly around the time the company filed for bankruptcy- however all indications are that NewPage’s Luke paper mill will not be immediately affected.  The Luke mill, which currently employs 870, is not currently on the market and is still viewed as valuable asset to the NewPage organization. Luke spokeswoman Patsy Koontz, in a recent interview with WCBC News said that it is anticipated that business will remain as usual whether before, during or after any financial restructuring…
